The Insiders: Get fall and festive with Concord Hospital

We thought for a second we were going to have to tell everyone to go to the hospital today. Alas, thankfully, we were wrong. This afternoon is the Family Harvest Festival sponsored by Concord Hospital Associates, but those forward-thinking medical types were on the ball in realizing a hospital is probably no place for a harvest festival. For that you need an ice cream farm!

So, today’s event is being held at Beech Hill Farm in Hopkinton (at 107 Beech Hill Road) from 1 to 4 p.m., a short five-minute drive or so from Concord (shorter in an ambulance with sirens blaring, but we don’t recommend requesting that mode of transportation). The festivities include farm animals, cookie decorating, face painting (or face decorating and cookie painting, if you want), and a make-your-own-sundae activity. There are also horse-drawn hayrides, which surprised us because we didn’t know horses could draw!

There will also be children’s music with Amy Conley and an appearance by Jim The Magic Guy.

Tickets are $5 per person, with children under 2 free. Payment must be made by cash or check only, and the admission price doesn’t include the corn maze.

For information, visit concordhospital.org or call 227-7000, ext. 3660.

∎ ∎ ∎

In keeping with the hospital theme, break a leg and stop by the Unitarian Universalist Church at 274 Pleasant St. at 2 p.m. to audition for Concord Light Opera’s performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore. Bring a brief song to sing and no anxiety, because everyone who auditions gets a spot in the show! Can’t beat those odds.
