Two charged, East Side Drive closed near Exit 16 after car hits telephone pole
East Side Drive was closed near Exit 16 this morning, after a car hit a telephone pole, and two 18-year-olds in the car now face alcohol-related charges.
"As a result of this accident," the Concord police said, "the telephone pole was snapped and live wires were downed on the roadway causing police to close the road between Eastman Street and Portsmouth Street. The road remains closed while crews work to repair the damage."
The police said they had arrested the driver, Samuel Harkins, 18, of Concord, and charged him with aggravated DWI, underage DWI, conduct after an accident and unlawful possition of alcohol by a minor.
Also arrested was Michael Allen, 18, of Concord. He was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of a controlled drug.
"Minor injuries were reported at the scene and those involved denied medical assistance," the police said. "The accident remains under investigation."
Harkins was released on $6,000 personal recognizance bail with a court date of Nov. 4 in Concord's district court, the police said. Allen was released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail with a court date of Dec. 2.
