New Hampshire diocese to take part in priest recognition
Catholic parishes in New Hampshire are planning to show support for their priests with prayers and special celebrations at the end of this month.
The weekend of Oct. 26-27 has been designated a celebration of the priesthood. It is organized by parish lay leaders and coordinated by the USA Council of Serra International.
Participants are being asked to develop their own special way of marking the day and honoring both the priesthood and their own priests. Over the past few years parishes have shown their appreciation by hosting receptions after Mass, placing an ad in the local newspaper honoring their priest or presenting their priest with personalized notes.
“We are blessed to have 13 men studying for the priesthood in our diocese who give so much credit to their pastors,” said the Rev. Jason Jalbert, director of the Office of Vocations for the Diocese of Manchester. “On Priesthood Sunday some of our seminarians will be speaking in parishes, sharing with parishioners the influence a priest had in their life.”
