Eating, before and after, walking the trail
If you’re looking for a light bite, sandwich platter or summer treat before hiking up West Rattlesnake Mountain, stop at the Dipsy Doodle Dairy Barn off Interstate 93, Exit 19, on Route 132 in Northfield.
Whether it’s a burger and fries, seafood, salad or an old-fashioned ice cream cone, Dipsy will give you the energy needed to tackle Rattlesnake. Just look for the sign showing a cow holding a double-scoop ice cream cone.
And afterward, on Main Street in Ashland, there’s the original Common Man restaurant, less than 6 miles from the trail.
Built in 1971, it features dining downstairs and an informal atmosphere upstairs in the lounge, with sofas, lounge chairs, games and high wood ceilings.
