Sens. Ayotte, McCain seek Olympics security report
Two Republican senators are asking federal officials for an assessment of efforts to share security information domestically and internationally ahead of next month’s Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and Sen. John McCain of Arizona wrote to Secretary of State John Kerry and others yesterday asking for a timely report on collaboration and information sharing related to the Olympics within the U.S. government and with foreign countries.
They urged officials to look for every opportunity to share information, and said both the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and last year’s Boston Marathon bombings showed how critical such sharing is to protecting Americans.
FBI Director James Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee yesterday that U.S. cooperation with the Russian Security Service has improved.
