Fundraising in Scott Brown’s 2012 U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts dwarfed that in Jeanne Shaheen’s 2008 U.S. Senate race. Here’s a look some key numbers.

2008: Jeanne Shaheen vs. John E. Sununu

Shaheen raised $8.3 million, while Sununu raised $8.8 million.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spent $7.3 million on TV ads, while its Republican counterpart spent $5 million on TV ads

Top outside groups spent $2.5 million on Shaheen’s behalf and $3.8 million for Sununu. This was before the existence of super PACs, which can raise unlimited amounts of money.

2012: Scott Brown vs. Elizabeth Warren

Brown raised $28 million, while Warren raised $42 million.

Outside groups spent $8 million total on the race, even with a pledge by Brown and Warren meant to limit outside spending.

2014: Jeanne Shaheen vs. Scott Brown

Shaheen has $5.8 million in the bank, while Brown just began fundraising.

Outside groups have spent $1.5 million against Shaheen and $360,000 against Brown.
