Shaheen, Ayotte back N.H. fed judge nominee

Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte are urging their colleagues to support Landya McCafferty’s nomination to serve as the next federal district court judge in New Hampshire.

Shaheen said yesterday she was struck by McCafferty’s intellect, thoughtfulness and level temperament. Ayotte said McCafferty’s extensive experience makes her well-qualified for the job.

McCafferty has served as U.S. magistrate judge for New Hampshire for three years, and has clerked for two judges at the First Circuit Court of Appeals. She also prosecuted professional misconduct cases at the state Supreme Court and worked as a public defender and a civil litigator.

If confirmed by the Senate, McCafferty would be the first woman to serve on the federal bench in New Hampshire.
