Five Guys delayed until May, franchise owner says

Five Guys will open in Concord this spring.

Franchise owner Cort Mendez announced last fall that the burger restaurant would open in Fort Eddy Plaza, and at the time he anticipated it would be open in January or February.

“This time last year, I was sure we were going to be open October, November of 2013 at the latest,” Mendez said. “There were a number of things that kind of delayed it, and we finally got through what we need. . . . I am targeting mid-May.”

The delays cropped up in fine print, Mendez said, but he called both the city of Concord and the landlord at Fort Eddy Plaza accommodating. And with the details of the lease finally in place, he said construction on the new burger joint should begin soon.

“I just picked up my building permit this week,” he said. “Everything’s been signed off on.”

Mendez owns eight other Five Guys locations in New Hampshire. The chain operates more than 1,000 locations nationwide.

“I’ve been wanting to be in Concord for such a long time,” Mendez said. “I’ve been trying to be patient for a location that I thought might be a good fit for what we do. I’m certainly happy that this location opened up.”
