Warner Market Basket not expanding anytime soon
As Warner officials continue exploring the addition of a roundabout next to Exit 9, once-mentioned expansion plans for the Market Basket nearby appear static, at least for the moment.
Questions about the grocery store’s layout surfaced at a recent selectmen’s meeting, according to Town Administrator Jim Bingham, because the board will have to meet with businesses who may be affected by the traffic circle when plans for it enter the final design phase (the town passed a warrant article earlier this year to fund a final design).
Market Basket approached the board in 2011 about adding a 200-seat restaurant and 26,700 square feet of retail space at its Warner outlet but has not presented any further plans since. Bingham said earlier this week that neither he nor the board knew the state of those plans.
Jeffrey Kevan, a supervisor at the planning firm TFMoran who is knowledgeable about the plans, said Market Basket is still considering expanding but will only move to do so once it finds tenants to fill the added space. He said the company has yet to find tenants but is actively searching.
