Concord canoe, kayak company selling ‘the experience’ of its products
Quickwater Canoe and Kayak, a family-owned company devoted to paddling, opened earlier this year under the same ownership and in the same location as Hannah’s Paddles, a previous boating business that closed in 2005.
Owner Aaron Constant said the family chose to open a new venture at the site, which has also been their home since 2002, once their two daughters grew older.
Quickwater rents and sells recreational and sea kayaks, high-end composite canoes, recreational paddle boards and an array of accessories including paddles, life preservers and dry gear.
As a devoted paddler himself, Constant said he believes in the value of allowing customers to test products before they purchase them.
“We try not to focus so much on selling the product as much as we want to sell the experience of that product,” he said. “The only way for someone to truly understand the experience they would get is to try it before they buy it.”
Quickwater sits along the Merrimack River, which Constant said is ideal for these demonstrations and the store’s rental program. The store also offers a rent and carry option, in which customers can rent a boat or board and bring it with them to another lake or river for the duration of their trip.
Constant said the store works to provide customers with valued products and services, and to establish relationships along the way.
“We didn’t go into business thinking we can compete with everyone else doing the same thing,” he said. “We went into business because we felt we could do it better, and we wanted to do it better.”
