Pittsfield farmer joins USDA advisory committee
Ray Conner, Beginner Farmer Program coordinator at the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Hampshire, has been appointed by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to serve on the USDA Advisory Committee on Beginning Farmers and Ranchers. The committee advises the secretary of agriculture on matters affecting new farmers and ranchers to enhance department goals for new farming and ranching operations.
Conner, along with her husband, Peter Dow, owns and operates Evandale Farm, a livestock and vegetable farm in Pittsfield. Conner and Dow raise certified organic chicken and employ organic practices and principles throughout all areas of the farm.
Conner also represents farms as a member of the steering committee of Food Solutions New England and engages in policy work with the New England Farms Union. She is a member of the New Hampshire Farm Bureau, the Small and Beginner Farmers of New Hampshire and the National Young Farmers Coalition.
