Letter: Don’t give up!
Re “Government at its worst” (Monitor letter, Feb. 22):
While I agree with the sentiments expressed by Helen Hoeker regarding the Loudon Road project, I do not believe that giving up on representative government is the answer. As citizens in a democratic society, we have an obligation to communicate our feelings on issues forcefully and respectfully and, at times, repeatedly. We also have the available option of the ballot box. While it is understandable to feel disenfranchised by the actions of our representatives on occasion, we should not allow our voices to go unheard. To paraphrase Edmund Burke’s advice, good people should never remain silent. Like others who have expressed opposition to this project, I will continue to speak out against it and hope Hoeker will join me.
