Letter: Thank the bookkeeper
Monitor readers know that there has been a rash of thefts and misappropriations by some of the people entrusted to care for our money. For each of those treasurers who think they can steal their way out of a rough patch in their lives, there are thousands of women and men who pore over ledger sheets in the mind-numbing effort to make two columns balance. Their honesty and integrity don’t get them on the front page.
The next time you see a bookkeeper, from the town clerk on down the line to the person who keeps the petty-cash box at the ballpark, I suggest you step up, shake their hand and thank them for their work.
