Letter: Sign up for Obamacare soon
As the open enrollment period for Obamacare ends on March 31, I think of folks I know who have happily signed up for health care coverage.
My self-employed nephew knew that he needed health insurance; he had a serious biking accident when younger. He successfully navigated the federal website, Health Care.gov, and found that his income level qualified him for a subsidy. His plan covers the basics and he can afford it.
Friends learned last fall that their insurance would be canceled at the end of the year because it didn’t meet the new standards. That plan was extended for another year, but meanwhile they found a far better deal through the exchange. Their new plan covered more, greatly reduced their yearly deductible at a far lower premium cost. They felt lucky that Obamacare was in effect.
Another acquaintance, long uninsured, got sick last year and ended up in the emergency room. The bill was more than $10,000, money he needed to live on while his seasonal work left him without income. He promised that he would go to ServiceLink, an agency that is signing people up for affordable plans, and get enrolled. I sure hope he did!
If you are still uninsured, please know it’s not too late!
Signups are happening around New Hampshire every day until March 31. Please get the health insurance you need.
