Letter: Disturbing interaction with Forrester, Morse
At an information session regarding the state Senate’s health insurance proposal, SB 413, Sen. Jeanie Forrester introduced co-host Senate President Chuck Morse, who discussed the bill and took questions. He turned himself into a pretzel, trying to appease conservative audience members when focusing on the bill’s financial aspects.
I asked, “Since SB 413 would be federally funded, similar to Medicaid expansion from the Affordable Care Act, where is this funding actually coming from?” Morse said he didn’t know where in the federal budget it was coming from and furthermore he didn’t care.
I said, “I find that very surprising since you, Senator Forrester and many of your supporters are very concerned that ‘Medicaid expansion’ money would come via the very same feds.” Forrester had to have known the money was coming from the ACA. Why didn’t she tell the audience?
I have called the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services to determine that this federal funding originated from the Affordable Care Act. These federal dollars are actually our tax dollars coming back to New Hampshire.
About EBT cards Morse said, “We did everything we could to get their pictures on the card but could not get that passed. So now, these EBT cards will be going to their drug lords.”
I then said, “There but for the grace of God go any one of us. . . . What you said was extremely insulting.”
Morse’s comment was disgusting. Forrester didn’t defend her EBT constituents nor did she answer the questions Morse dodged.
