Letter: No call for changing the Constitution
Re “Rewrite the 2nd Amendment” (Monitor letter, April 4):
The Second Amendment, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights, was created to protect the people of this country from tyranny and government oppression. The fact that some choose to abuse these rights and cause harm to others doesn’t mean we should change the Constitution.
There are millions of people in this country who own guns and use them in a proper, responsible manner. They don’t deserve to have their rights taken away just so that a few others can be happy.
I’m sure there are plenty of people who have been offended by what a select few said last year; maybe we should change the First Amendment to allow only certain people to say what they’d like.
It is absurd to think that changing the First Amendment will keep people from committing violence with guns. The writer should be ashamed that he wants to change the rights of we the people.
