Letter: No help for moms who worked on Mothers Day
There are two billion moms in the world. May 11th was Mothers Day in the United States: Some mothers awoke to breakfast, some enjoyed lunch or a special dinner, those in hospitals/care facilities were visited by their families.
Though billions of dollars are spent on gifts and cards, most mothers enjoy handmade gifts and time with their children of all ages. Yet more the norm, millions of mothers were at work.
While New Hampshire honored them, mothers were working at chain clothing/department stores, attractions and hotels/motels, fast food chains, coffee shops, cafés and restaurants, waiting on other mothers celebrating their day.
Most mothers work those minimum wage jobs, unable to take the day off as they do not make enough money to support their children. Shame on New Hampshire’s Republican senators for their disgraceful behavior!
It is dishonorable, scandalous that the Senate voted to kill the minimum wage increase on a party-line vote. The bill would have helped 76,000 Granite Staters.
Senate Republicans have again voted against the best interests of the state’s citizens, who will remember these senators at election time.
