Letter: An inspiring story

What a story in the Monitor about Lizzie Busby’s adventure to the prom at Hopkinton High School (Monitor, June 16). She is an inspiration to so many others who have challenges but did not dare to step out of their comfort zones.

Good for her and good for the students of the school who invited her to their table for dinner and the others she joined in dancing, as well as the young man who asked her to dance.

We need more students like these.

As a senior citizen in Contoocook, I know for a fact that there are a number of great students in Hopkinton who have reached out to us seniors at the Slusser Senior Center and partnered with us in the “Senior to Senior” program each year.

I would like to think that maybe some of those friends of ours were there to invite Lizzy to be with them that night. It says a lot for Lizzy that she did go and that the students welcomed her into their group as well.

We need more people like that in this world.

If you haven’t reached out yet, I hope you will find some Lizzys in schools, communities, churches and in the workplace, and invite them to your table and to your life. I believe you will find that you will be a better person for getting to know them.

Thanks, Ann Marie Jakubowski, for telling us Lizzy’s story.
