Letter: Valuable advice on bears
It was wonderful to see Ben Kilham’s work honored (Monitor front page, July 16).
I recently read his book Out on a Limb, and then within a few days had an encounter with a bear cub and her mother while hiking in Pillsbury State Park.
Thanks to Kilham’s wise advice, I did my best to exhibit neither fear nor vulnerability and we parted – friends, I think – with hardly more than a moment’s racing heart.
His work is a great gift not only to the bears, but to those of us who are lucky enough to share the beautiful New Hampshire woods with them.
