Letter: Gazans heroically resolute
Rabbi Robin Nafshi doesn’t know what she’s talking about (Monitor Forum, July 23).
Israeli terrorists and murderers of Israel’s “Defense” Force has butchered nearly 800 Palestinians while wounding thousands more in Gaza. The vast majority of Israel’s intended victims are innocent men, women and children.
Palestinian families are being eviscerated by Israel, but it’s only the latest chapter in a blood drenched 66-year history of documented massacres that the Israelis have deliberately committed against Palestinian civilians.
As Israeli columnist Gideon Levy wrote, the purpose of Israel’s “Operation Protective Edge” is to slaughter Arabs as Israelis applaud the carnage.
Nafshi can’t even tell the truth about what the word Hamas means, now she’s lying about their intentions, which are to recover all the land stolen from the Palestinians since 1948.
Hamas isn’t at war with either Jews or Judaism. Hamas doesn’t accept Israel’s “right to exist” and shouldn’t because Israel has never acknowledged the Palestinian people’s rights to anything including statehood.
Israel’s interminable military occupation continues as does the Israelis’ massive theft of Palestinian land. International law recognizes that Israel occupies Gaza with the Israelis controlling the territory’s airspace, coast and territorial waters, land borders (with Egypt), electricity, food and fuel supplies.
Former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon even conceded that Israel occupies the West Bank. The threat to Israelis from Hamas rockets is minuscule compared with the catastrophic death and destruction being inflicted by Israel upon the defenseless and traumatized Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
Nevertheless, in confronting evil, Gazans remain heroically resolute, unbowed and defiant.
