Letter: Believe in this underdog
They said man would never fly. They said we could never get to the moon. They say Market Basket employees can’t win this fight. They say we won’t ever be the same.
History is filled with stories of people who overcome the odds.
At the start of this, experts and professors said we were committing corporate suicide and that we could never win this fight. Now they are changing their tune.
They didn’t believe because the middle class has never won a battle against the corporate world, let alone without a union. It’s been said many times throughout this that we are stronger than any union in this country. This is because we are a family – from the employees to the vendors to our spouses and children to everyone who patronizes our stores.
To our valued and beloved customers, you are just as much a part of our family as any one of us. I couldn’t be prouder to call you family.
To those who say we are destroying the company with our actions: Sometimes for something truly remarkable to happen, everything has to come undone.
So, to our beloved customers and all the naysayers, I assure you that we will rise from the ashes of this and be greater than we were before.
Stay strong and respectful. We will win this! I am Market Basket. You are Market Basket. We are Market Basket.
