Letter: A lack of knowledge

Dennis Hamel’s letter (Monitor letters, Aug. 18) continued the recent Republican attack on geographic literacy by ridiculing Rep. Annie Kuster for being unaware that Benghazi is in the Middle East.

Benghazi is not in the Middle East. Benghazi is in Libya, which is in Africa. The only part of Africa that is in the Middle East is Egypt.

I don’t understand the thought process behind these attacks. It’s not as though it is all that difficult to do a quick fact check. It’s one thing to berate someone for an honest mistake. It’s quite another thing to berate someone else for lacking knowledge when it is in fact you who is lacking.

FALSE Stephen: you too are a LIDV. This directly from the Hillary state dept website - The Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA), headed by Assistant Secretary Anne Patterson, deals with U.S. foreign policy and U.S. diplomatic relations with Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon,........ Libya,......... Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Regional policy issues that NEA handles include Iraq,......... Middle East peace,....... terrorism and weapons of mass destruction, and political and economic reform. It must be awful to be a LIDV

Steve, Understand. Like the horrific attacks on Sarah Palin, including her family and disabled child.

Attacks on Michelle Bachman and other women by Democrats. This is the same Annie Kuster who grabbed a microphone from a person asking her questions while cursing. Not a nice person anyway.

correct..after watching the video again, we should be ridiculing Rep. Annie Kuster for being unaware..period...........http://youtu.be/jEeX8q1NQ4w
