Letter: Outrage? Oh please!
Re “Contemptible cartoon” (Monitor letter, Feb. 27):
I agree with Mike Gorman that Mike Marland is an insistent ideologue, as is nearly every cartoonist of any note. The particular point in his letter, though, addresses the very nature of a cartoon: i.e. an exaggeration to make a point.
The tragedy at Benghazi, Libya, is not being trivialized. Rather, it is being compared to other issues that affect the American people. The cartoon actually trivializes the actions of Sen. Kelly Ayotte in her need to be seen and her need to identify her “absolute outrage” of this injustice perpetrated by the president of the United States and the Democratic Party on the American people. Oh please.
Mike Gorman writes that we only have one cartoonist in the capital city, but I disagree. The Concord Monitor publishes commentary by Grant Bosse, which for all its apparent seriousness is the best cartoon around for the shallowness of the ALEC faction and fiscal conservatism (read greed) in general.
