Letter: Support Epsom teachers

Please exercise your right to vote March 12. I request your support of the 2013-16 Epsom teachers’ contract and 2013-14 school budget.

Epsom Central School continues its tradition of providing a phenomenal educational value to students and constituents. The value is reflected in two elements: academic performance and fiscal responsibility.

The school’s achievements on the NECAP test are the highest in most areas compared to schools in and outside our district. Our students, faculty and townspeople should be proud of this performance.

The 2013-14 budget is genuinely modest, representing less than a 0.0015 increase. The school administration thoroughly accomplishes the task of providing an exceptional educational experience in a fiscally responsible fashion.

Epsom teachers are the heartbeat and engine for the remarkable performance. Our teachers have been without a contract for two years. The school board, teachers association and budget committee worked in concert to deliver a contract that could be approved by all. The initiative proved successful, and the contract is overwhelmingly approved by all three coalitions. The agreement takes into consideration the challenging economic environment while simultaneously providing a conservative (less than 3 percent) increase per year for next three years to support our educators into the future.

We have something special and unique in Epsom: a school that is performing at high academic levels in a fiscally responsible manner. This is value. I respectfully request your support of the teachers and school that deliver this value.
