Letter: Out of touch
There are dramatic parallels between the leadership of the U.S. government and the Catholic Church.
Leaders are out of touch with their membership. In the face of the government sequester and the resignation of the pope, there has never been more urgency for change. I praise Pope Benedict for stepping down.
We need new congressional voices who are less concerned about personal power and reelection. If the current congressional leaders can’t work together, they should follow the example of the pope and have the courage and humility to step down.
This is not about the speaker getting 98 per cent of what he wants. It’s about giving the people what they need, cooperation and compromise with the president they have re-elected.
