Letter: Vote No, Webster
Article 13 on the town warrant would have Webster give the Pillsbury Lake District another $10,000 to help pay for a loan taken out by the district in 2006 to repair its dam. If this warrant article look familiar to you, it is because we voted “No” on an identical article in 2012.
Students of town history know that during the past five years, Webster has given the Pillsbury Lake District $40,768,57 to help pay for its dam bond issue.
At three separate town meetings, Webster residents voted $10,000 to aid the district, for a total of $30,000. But residents had little or no say on the other $10,768.57. In a perfectly legal move, but at a lightly attended meeting, the Webster selectmen gave the Pillsbury Lake District an additional $10,768.57 in timber tax breaks (see selectmen’s minutes from July 25, 2011).
Many residents believe that $40,768,57 is enough goodwill. If you agree, stay to the
end of the town meeting and vote No on
