Letter: Inappropriate celebration
Re House Resolution 6, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision:
My state representative told me she was pro-choice and has been for 40 years. I told her I felt it ironic that people who support abortion are quick to point out that abortion is a private, very difficult matter between a woman and her doctor, and now they want to wave flags and celebrate. How hypocritical.
I told her it ought to be a day of mourning for all the women and babies who had been killed, and I pointed out that just last month a beautiful 29-year-old woman and her baby were killed in a Maryland abortion and right now in Philadelphia an abortion doctor was on trial for murder and two of his workers had pleaded guilty to murder and we want to celebrate something like this?
I told her it would be a blight on the state’s reputation to be known as the state that celebrates abortion.
She said that she thought both sides were doing better at talking and she could understand how this wouldn’t help. I told her it was an in-your-face kind of response to those who support life. She said she would give it further thought. I pray that she is a no vote.
