Letter: War criminals

Recently, we marked the tenth anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq War. Thousands of brave Americans lost their lives, and tens of thousands more were wounded physically, mentally and spiritually. These patriotic American men and women sacrificed themselves in a war based on lies and misinformation. Many more Iraqis were killed. The military-industrial complex squandered American blood and treasure on a lie.

In 1946, many of the German defendants in the Nuremburg Trials were convicted of the crime of “conspiracy to wage aggressive war” along with other crimes. At that time the United States recognized that waging an aggressive and unprovoked war was an international crime.

Why do we not apply these same standards to our own leaders? Why are George Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld not on trial or even under indictment or investigation? Why are they being treated as “senior statesmen” and not as the war criminals they really are?

What war crimes are we talking about. What about Obama unilaterally supporting the overthrow of an ally who kept peace with Israel for 40 years and allowing the Muslim brotherhood to take seed in Egypt, the same applies to Libya. Now Obama is funnelling over $200,000,000 to the Palestinian Authority by lifting restrictions on frozen bank accounts and usurping the authority of our own Congress. Ask yourself, "who are the real traitors"? If a person was intellectually honest, the names Obama, Biden and Kerry would come up. War crimes? Baloney, Bush, Rumsfeld, et al are not guilty of war crimes.

Ok..I'll go along with your idea George Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld be put on trial for war crimes. But lets add to that all the congress that voted to go to war, Obama and his defense secretary, and all who voted to keep funding the “conspiracy to wage aggressive war”

You're trying to mask the severity of the charges against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and a handful of others by arguing basically "Everybody did it." Every week it seems there is new evidence that crew cooked the intelligence so that they could have the war on Iraq that they wanted since before the 2000 election. Nuremberg type trials for the worst of the war criminals and then we can otherwise deal with the rest. Sadly it will never happen because the real lesson of Nuremberg is that prosecution is only for the losers.

What charges??? By whom??

OK, my bad. Not formal "charges." Or are you totally unaware of the accusations?
