Letter: A cheap choice
Re “Coach charged in assault on ex” (Monitor front page, April 2):
My immediate reaction was to question the “why” of using a police report over many other worthy headlines? What was the Monitor’s point in positioning this salacious story as the day’s top headline? I believe it was a cheap choice intended not only to sell papers but also to subject Amanda Bacher to public humiliation and judgment well before her hearing.
The Monitor’s reporter tells me that it is the paper’s responsibility to let the public know when a coach is charged with a crime. Does this include a front-page headline over a story that includes a person’s high school history?
I hope the Monitor gives serious thought to its error in judgment and the damage it possibly has done to an innocent citizen. We all look forward to the headline coverage and apology when this case is resolved.
