Letter: For Bradford voters, a costly decision on town hall
To Bradford residents: Today we have an important decision to make about our town hall. If we decide to renovate, the guaranteed cost is $1,767,000. This price does not include interest which will depend on the term of the loan and the rates.
Another cost which was not mentioned at town meeting is the cost to use the building. We will have maintenance, higher insurance costs, heat, electricity, cleaning and management for the renovated building.
Our roads and bridges need to be fixed. We have other purchases in the next few years.
We need to start thinking long-term: How will it affect us in five, 10 or 20 years. Many people can’t even afford their taxes now. If we vote to renovate the town hall, how many more people will not be able to pay their property taxes?
