Letter: A widespread medical, financial problem

Re “Study: Alzheimer’s tops cancer, heart disease in expense” (Monitor front page, April 5) and “Event aims to shine light on Alzheimer’s” (Monitor Local & State page, April 6):

Thank you for choosing to publish these stories, which address a medical and financial problem for so many families today.

The Timmons Team in Northwood is organizing an event to raise money for Boston University’s Alzheimer’s Disease Center’s study of the disease. Ginny Timmons, who has been diagnosed as being in the early stage of Alzheimer’s and is involved with the B.U. study, has enlisted the help of family and friends to spread the word and raise money to support the study.

We are working toward a June 23 5K competitive run and walk along the scenic Wininipesaukee River between Northfield and Tilton, ending in Franklin. This endeavor has the enthusiastic support of Tilton, Northfield and Franklin police chiefs as well as many citizens. For information, please go to the websites: or Our goal is to raise as much money for the B.U. Alzheimer’s Disease Center study as possible with the profound wish that this terrible disease will be cured.
