Letter: New Hampshire voters will remember, Sen. Ayotte
Shame on you, Sen. Kelly Ayotte! I read the article in the Monitor about your reasoning behind your vote regarding expanded background checks despite the fact that the vast majority of New Hampshire residents are behind this (“Ayotte helps kill guns bill,” front page, April 18).
You said, “I believe that restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners will not prevent a deranged individual or criminal from obtaining and misusing firearms to commit violence.”
With that kind of reasoning, why have laws at all? No laws will prevent crime, however we must do something!
This common-sense, bipartisan bill was a good start. What law-abiding gun owners can possibly be against legislation which protect them as well as all others? Your concerns regarding this legislation is merely repetition of the NRA’s stand.
I will ask you two questions, Senator. Who elected you to represent New Hampshire residents to work for them in Washington? Do you really think that, come time for your re-election, we won’t remember your voting record?
Finally, thank you, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen! You have listened to the people of New Hampshire.
