Letter: Ex-New London chief showed integrity, stamina
Re “Under fire, police chief steps down” (Monitor front page, April 5):
Being a resident and practicing physician in New London the past 24 years, I had the opportunity to observe David Seastrand as police chief. His professionalism, stamina and integrity have always been outstanding and should never be impugned.
Fifteen years ago, one of my patients, a 17-year-old beautiful girl, was arrested and spent six hours at the New London police station, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. She was treated well and with respect. I admired how the officers supervised by Seastrand managed the incident discreetly, with compassion, patience, empathy, tact and great professionalism. Thanks to Seastrand and his colleagues, the life of the girl was not damaged and has been happy and successful.
Seastrand, for his 27 years of devoted work for this community, deserves our respect and support. Otherwise his opprobrium will be ours.
