Letter: Help us re-create Concord’s front door
Thousands of people pass through Concord each day on Interstate 93. Apart from the capitol dome and a few church steeples, the view they get of the city gives no hint of what a great downtown we have. Creative Concord, an arm of the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, invites you to help us change the face that Concord shows the world.
We will be holding a brainstorming charrette on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Grappone Center, where we will explore ideas for creating a new front door for Concord. Please join us and offer any and all ideas that you have to improve Concord’s first impression.
Our focus will be I-93’s western viewscape (or western view), from Exit 13 to just north of Exit 14. We plan to try to generate as many answers as possible to four questions:
∎ How do we create a favorable impression of Concord from I-93 that compels people to leave the highway and come downtown?
∎ What are long-term possibilities, and what could we do easily now?
∎ How can we create an attractive gateway to downtown?
∎ Once we have put forward ideas that we think are promising, how do we keep the discussion alive?
∎ At the charrette, we will gather all ideas from any source without limit. At a later session to be scheduled later in May, we will offer the best of the crop for comment and critique.
Please join us at both sessions. We need your ideas!
