Letter: More to the ash tree story
In the breathless reporting on the ash borer, there is missing context.
The ash tree population in New Hampshire has been in steep decline for many years. Around my home there are hundreds of ash trees. None of them are healthy; a majority are dead. The trees were not attacked by the borer.
According to our local forestry expert, the cause is not well understood but believed to be a fungus or bacteria. He has written off the species for commercial timber for several years.
