Letter: Important event for teens, parents

If you are a parent of a teen please read this.

In the United States 750,000 teens get pregnant each year. They never thought it could happen to them. May is National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. Please encourage your teen to stop into the free “Teen Awareness” open house at the Concord Feminist Health Center, 38 S. Main St., today from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. We are an open and affirming health-care practice. All are welcome. No question is off limits, and we are a judgment-free zone.

It can be difficult to discuss issues involving sex, gender, identity and red flags in relationships. This is a great chance to empower your teen. The Concord Feminist Health Center does not advocate sex – it advocates education. Educated teens will make sounder decisions in keeping with their own personal value system.

As a mother of two teenage boys I am happy they have the Concord Feminist Health Center to go to when they are too embarrassed to come to me.
