Letter: Restore the Old Man

That New Hampshire does not restore its state symbol is an indication of an inherent flaw in its character. Daniel Webster’s statement, “But up in the Mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there he makes men,” now falls on deaf ears.

Perhaps the writer has the funds necessary to restore the old man.

At the time of the collapse, the state geologist determined that the ancient rock formation that had supported the Old Man is now too unstable to support a restoration. Perhaps something could be done in a comparable location, but it seems it would ring somehow rather hollow.
