Letter: Act of depravity

I cannot imagine the state of utter hopelessness which must surely have overcome the hunger striking prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, to decide that their only recourse to bring attention to the injustice being perpetrated upon them is to starve themselves. The forced feeding by the Pentagon is just the latest act of depravity by an administration that is continuing, and in many cases intensifying, the crimes of the Bush administration.

The United States should rejoin the world community by embracing international norms: Condemn forced feeding as an act of torture and stop it at once; return to their home countries those prisoners who have been cleared for release by our own security and military agencies; and for those remaining prisoners provide due process in a court of law.
