Letter: From Hassan, a terrible lack of compassion
I am appalled by Gov. Maggie Hassan’s decision to insist that the home cultivation provision be removed from HB 573, the medical marijuana bill.
How can Hassan listen to police chiefs, whose departments are funded in part by assets seized in raids on marijuana users? She supported a bill that allowed home cultivation of six plants in 2009 – twice as many as the three plants allowed in HB 573 – and this bill has regulations and restrictions to keep the cultivation sites secure.
Patients cannot wait years while our government figures out how it wants to move forward with dispensaries.
I voted for Hassan because she told me face-to-face she would support medical marijuana. Like a typical politician, she misrepresented her stance on this issue, and I will never forget that.
The lack of compassion demonstrated by this decision is astounding. Hassan listens to biased police chiefs who only have concern for their budgets instead of people suffering and dying. For shame!
