Letter: We need both casinos and manufacturing
Re “There is a better way than casino gambling” (Monitor Opinion page, May 18):
Casinos or high-tech manufacturing is not the choice! We can and should have both. Stop the stupid bickering and get on with the job! We can have a casino by 2014; high-tech manufacturing will take a lot longer to accomplish, if at all. A bird in hand is worth 100 in the bush.
We in New Hampshire successfully run liquor and lottery programs; can we not manage casino gambling?
The imagined negative social ripple effect from casinos cannot be shown to exist. Forty states have casinos, most without ill effects on the economy or social culture.
Stop the obstructionist bickering and deadlock form of governance in the state capitol. Get on with the job at hand and pass HB 152. This will bring about a positive ripple effect to our entire economy.
