Letter: Homeless in jail? They’re already there!
Last week a letter writer suggested that if the homeless issue wasn’t resolved, they would end up in our jails. Well, according to the police blotter on or about June 20 four homeless men were arrested for minor crimes such as shoplifting a sub sandwich. Each refused bail and chose instead “three hots and a cot at the graybar hotel.” As Anatole France observed, “The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread (and to camp on state or city property).”
