Letter: Our grim future: weeds and crab grass

The supporters who wax euphorically over the plans to fill the new Main Street with flower boxes and verdant mountain greenery should take a trip to the plaza in front of the Capital Commons building for a reality check. It is a model that reflects the lack of civic pride so prevalent on Main Street. This 6-year-old plaza has large brick landscaping boxes that were intended to add to the summer ambience of those who enjoy the outside dining offered by the restaurant and those who attend the movie theater and use the city parking garage.

What they will find are landscaping boxes filled with dead and dying plants, weeds the size of small trees and crab grass trying to making a living in every crack and cranny. Not a flower of any description in sight! If you want to know what the new Main Street will look like, visit Capital Commons plaza. The future is already here.
