Letter: Re “Smoking banned at vets’ home” (Monitor front page, Aug. 3):
Will we never rid ourselves of all the petty dictators? At least those veterans of World War II still living really were fighting for freedom and democracy. Remember those words. I suspect even today’s servicemen can still buy smokes cheaper than any civilian can. They were practically free when I was in the Navy. I ain’t going nowhere I can’t smoke my cheap little cigars without going out into the cold winter’s air. Where is the freedom, where is the democracy?
