Letter: Common sense in prayer flap
Thank you, Rep. Jane J. Hunt, for the first sensible letter about Lizarda Urena praying on school property (“Why not pray at home,” Monitor, Aug. 9).
If there is a God, I doubt you have to be an exhibitionist to get his attention. Why can’t she pray at home? Especially since she knows that what she is doing is upsetting to some people.
If she wanted to pray for our troops in Afghanistan, would she have to travel there to do it? That kind of reasoning is quite frankly insulting to the God she professes to believe in.
Along these same lines, what’s up with internet Christian dating ads that want you to join now so you can find out who God has chosen for you. If God has chosen someone for you, why do you have to join an online dating service to find out who it is? Can’t you just ask God yourself? Besides, if God has chosen someone for you, wouldn’t he have already brought you together? Otherwise what’s the point? I think sometimes believers tend to believe much more than they should. Just my opinion.
