Letter: Bribery from Northern Pass
The blatantly greed-driven gall of Northern Pass is appalling.
The words “bribery,” “hostage taking,” and “insulting” came to mind when Northern Pass executive Gary Long, formerly the PSNH CEO, announced a program to provide money for jobs for the needy North Country – if Northern Pass first gets all it wants.
That is so blatantly the ancient carrot and stick approach. The message is that the money will be available if and only if you surrender everything else: your private property, the value of your land, tourism dollars, any hope of a genuine affordable sustainable energy future for New Hampshire and any remaining sense of pride.
With this latest ploy, Northern Pass officials are straining credibility beyond the breaking point. This gimmick is about as honest and open as a game of three-card monty. They win, we lose. If they can’t be honest about this program, can we believe anything else they say about the project? I suspect not.
We in New Hampshire are citizens; we are not sheep, Mr. Long.
