Letter: Anti-scientific hokum

I would like to think that Michael Sununu was being deliberately provocative, not being provocatively mendacious, in his column, “Beware climate catastrophe charlatans” (Monitor Forum, Aug. 24). If he was simply trying to tweak people’s noses with twisted interpretations and humorous flim-flam, in the mode of, say, Stephen Colbert, then I would say good for him in mocking climat-change deniers. But when he seriously sets up ridiculous straw men such as climate modelers’ difficulty in predicting the El Nino oscillation, then I believe that he is being deliberately destructive, and his comments reflect poorly on not only himself, but on those who promote, create and disseminate this sort of anti-scientific hokum. Shame on you for printing such a hateful “opinion” piece that is teeming with falsehoods.
