Letter: Lighten up
In a world where leaders are using chemical weapons against their own people, the only nation with the courage to side with President Obama is France. Didn’t we refer to France as cowards just a decade ago? This has been all over the news for two weeks, and rightfully so. Also all over the news are stories about prison gangs going public, people being murdered, and women and children being victimized.
With all of this flooding the media, I warmly welcome the wittiness of the Monitor’s Insiders columnists, Ben Conant and Keith Testa!
In a recent edition of the Monitor I learned about a man possibly paralyzed in a boating accident, a 1-year-old shot in New York City, and the Red Sox being shut out by the Tigers. I also found, in the Concord Insider, “The Finest, Most Informative BearCat Coverage You’ll Get From Any News Outlet.” When I turned the page I laughed myself to tears.
In response to Chuck Annal’s letter to the editor (“Childish columnists,” Monitor, Sept. 1), we all could use a little humor to brighten up our day. The fact that Conant and Testa felt comfortable enough to joke about “I Have A Dream” goes to show how much progress we as Americans have made in the last 50 years.
This reminds me of a time, not long ago, when a certain cartoonist in Europe was blasted by a certain religious group for depicting a certain prophet.
This is 2013, and people need to lighten up!
