Letter: Maybe it was just a kind offer
I am taken aback by a letter in Saturday’s Monitor, “Scary encounter” by Shirley Dyer of Franklin. It concerned a neighborhood where one of the neighbors offered a young girl a ride while it was raining.
The only thing Dyer was right about is that it was wise for this girl not to have gotten into his car, and it was also a good thing that she reported it.
I, too, have offered a ride to a neighbor’s kid when both he and my daughter missed the school bus one morning. My daughter reminded me that I didn’t know him – I had never given it a second thought prior to that. So I can assure you of two things:
One, not everybody is as perverted as the writer would have people think. Sometimes people offer kindness without thinking beforehand.
Two, I have lived in this city for many years, and the Concord Police Department is on top of what’s going on in this city. If they said there was no threat, chances are strong that there wasn’t one.
