Letter: Make employers pay
Re food stamp cuts for the elderly: This solution is called the “better late than never solution.” It applies to any elderly people receiving Social Security who may be cut from the food stamp program. Most likely those folks will be women who did not receive the higher wages they deserved when they worked. Instead of having the taxpayers pay for the food stamp bill as they have been, why not send the former employers a bill from Social Security to make up the loss these employees continue to have so that their Social Security will be enough to include the expense of food. This includes jobs held in the past from the government as well as private employers.
Why should people who were unjustly not paid well in the past continue to be burdened?
