Letter: Crocodile tears for Green

Tuesday’s Monitor included a full-page ad praising Michael Green, the CEO of Concord Hospital, for 20 years of leadership. The ad was paid for by the Granite Healthcare Network, which includes Concord Hospital.

Why does Concord Hospital need to waste money on a full-page ad? Especially when Green earns something like $800,000 per year.

Green wrote a column explaining that Concord Hospital could not accept the supposed low Obamacare rates proffered by Blue Cross because other insurance companies would come to the hospital expecting the same low rates. Yes, this is what is supposed to occur in a competitive market, which the conservatives have praised. The overpriced providers will reduce their prices or go out of business.

In the meantime, the inconvenience will be for the citizens of Concord and surrounding communities. They will have to drive to other hospitals (we have no public transportation system to speak of) and probably choose new doctors who have privileges in those hospitals.

I will believe that Concord Hospital has financial problems when Green accepts a “paltry” salary of a few hundred thousand per year!
